Oral sex and cancer

I never would have thought about oral sex leading to cancer but then I came across an article in the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Apparently not only can HPV cause cervical cancer but it can cause oral cancer as well.

Dr. Brian Nussenbaum, an ear nose throat doctor at Washington University, estimates that 70 percent of his cancer patients have tumors on the back of their tongues and tonsils caused by human papillomavirus-16. Most of those patients are between ages 45 and 55. About half are women. His goal is to get this information out there as HPV can lie dorman for many years.

For more information read the original article from the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
