Senator Franken on bankruptcy

Ms. Diana Furchtgott Roth is an economist with lots of experience in the White House when it's been in Republican hands, working for Presidents Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. I don't think she expected Senator Franken.

I actually wish that he had more time because the agenda that she is trying to sell is opposing health care reform; claiming that is will cause more medical bankruptcies and that it will harm women. I think she's spent so much time with wealthy politicians she doesn't know what is already going on out here.

I have a little subtle plan to fight for universal health care.

Every time I find myself talking to someone I don't know - in a store, when on the phone (when i call customer service or even if I get a marketing call I really don't want), standing in a line, etc... I try to get a bit of conversation going. Then I try to work universal health care into the conversation. Somehow, there is always agreement - it's always us against them.

I talk about the people I know who have had medical crisis in places where they have universal health care - how they got top care and then what the cost was. I tell them about the time my mom was traveling and had an accident and had to see an emergency neurosurgeon in France. And about how they sent her a bill for $100. for her treatment because she was not a French citizen. I try to get the conversation around to the part where we now pay more for health insurance than for housing - every month! And even more if we get sick!

We all agree - doesn't matter if you love to watch Fox or MSNBC. Yet too many of us think that everybody else thinks its a bad idea. So my plan is to start the grass roots tell two (new) friends campaign. And so on, and so on ...
